Our weatherman here says we are going to get the OLE MIXED BAG in northern NY. Rain, sleet and snow.

Seen enough winter and I'm ready for spring NOW. Better start warming up pretty soon as we have our first ATV / Buggy camping trip planned for April 12th.

Hope you're not coming here up North: there's so much snow this year that I won't be surprised to see ski-doos in the trails until in mid-june !!!

Nope, heading west to Tug-Hill NY out near Watertown for the 5th Annual Snirt Run. Snirt = snow and dirt.

If you have a chance, please post some pix on the forum; I'm curious to see what the SNIRT Run looks like

Here is a link to the info about the Snirt and on it there is a link to pics from previous runs. Last year was the only year I didn't make it because I was sick that week end. The year before I was there and they said there was over 1000 ATVs registured for the run and I was told that at least 1/3 of the ATVs that were out riding on Saturday weren't registured in the run they were there only for the ride.

Cool. Thanx Ken, nice pix.

I see that the trail conditions change a lot from year to year and it's perfect like that: as an example there wasn't much snow in 2006 but more than likely only mud, while 2007 had lots of snow and almost no 'dirt' ... 2005 was a good balance of both.

I presume with the recent weather 2008 will look like 2007 then

I just checked a webcam from the Tug-Hill area that has a snow gauge on it and it shows just under 3 feet of snow there.

I hope they get some warm weather between now and April 12th or I'm going to have a heck of a time setting up the toy-hauler where I normally go. Might have to setup in one of the motel parking lots :( and won't be able to have a camp fire in the evenings. A few years back the dust was so bad you could hardly see the front of your bike and last year the guys that went from here said they were in 2 feet of snow and the 4X2s were getting stuck all day long.

:D Can't wait to go as this year will be the first Snirt Run with my RZR :D

So, how did it go with the RZR and the Snirt ?

We didn't get a chance to ride the Snirt. In NY the RZR is the only SxS that can be registured as an ATV. In our group we had 2 RZRs, 3 ATVs and 8 other SxSs. We had permission from senator Griffo that all the SxSs would be OK to ride the Snirt and none of the Law would bother the unregistured SxSs for registrations. We went a whole 2.4 miles befor we ran into a NYS Police Officer that was laying and waiting for us. He escorted us back to the Motel and told us to park them or be ticketed and towed at our expence. I was the only SxS that was registured as well as the ATVs and we could have rode but it wasn't right for us to go and leave the others so we didn't ride. A bunch of our group went to one of the bars to get some tee shirts of the Snirt and while there they seen and talked to at least 25 other SxSs that were out rideing and they said that they weren't bothered in any way by the law. SO WE WERE TARGETED for some reason. I alone spent $150 in gas to go there and our group spent over $3000 in motel room to sit in a motel all weekend. WASN'T GOOD!!!

Gee ... people are so troublemakers. That's bad: it gives me the feeling that the SxS are pointed the finger at for some reason, even in the USA ...

The problem I have with it is that our group is the only group that was targeted. There were at lest a hundred SxSs there and they had no problems with the law. Just they knew where we were and we were a large group with SxSs. We started at least a month before the ride to questioning the ones putting on the ride to make sure we were OK to go and we were told OK and that the reg. for the buggys would be waved for that ride. The night before the event we went to the Sno-Pals snow barn to make sure of it and they had written permission from the senator on the issue and that ALL LAW inforcement (NYS Police, DEC officers, Sheriff officers and the Park police) would go along with it. But the NYS officer told us he was ordered to get us. He said he was only doing his job, but he wasn't because he NEVER checked myself or any of the ATVs for registrations or anyone for insurance.
